A brave new world. Early days with the Nikon D50.
There’s a certain nostalgia in looking back at the files from my early days with the Nikon D50. These photos represent a time when the camera was less of a tool and more of a puzzle. I didn’t have a grasp on the exposure triangle or how aperture affected depth of field; I just knew I wanted to stop using the “Auto” green icon and see what the other dials actually did.
Switching over to Manual for the first time was mostly an exercise in trial and error. I remember spinning the command dial back and forth, squinting at the small LCD screen, and trying to figure out why one shot was a white blur and the next was a black rectangle. There was no strategy involved—just a lot of clicking, adjusting, and clicking again until the image on the screen finally matched what I was seeing with my eyes.
