The trusty Nikon D50 takes its first trip to the "Big Apple."

Often the camera was my travel companion to places big and small.

I had a pleasant dining experience at this Olive Garden. Memories are all that remains of the Olive Garden at Times Square.

From the start, I’ve always loved just experimenting with manual camera settings. A huge benefit of the “upgrade” to a DSLR interchangeable lens camera, is having all the controls at your fingertips (literally).

Once you know which knobs and buttons do what, it becomes predictable and you can adjust settings on the fly and view the changes in the camera viewfinder while composing the shot. Along the way I’ve certainly ruined my fair share of cool photo opportunities because I just didn’t understand the basic components of light exposure (more on this later).

I love how photography captures a moment in time that showcases how things change over time.

Gone are the days of Yellow Cabs flooding the Times Square area | New York, 2006

These shots are from a trip to Times Square and Coney Island with the Nikon D50 and they represent an era where everything was very much “trial and error” and trying hot tips from photography magazines.

A lot of lessons were learned on this trip that would certainly shape and continue to spark my interest in photography. Ahhh the blissful ignorance of youth urban exploration as well:)
