The Nikon D50 takes on the west coast.
These shots from Seattle and San Francisco mark the point where I stopped just “testing” the manual settings and started trying to use them in the wild. Taking a Nikon D50 into the chaos of New York City as a beginner was a steep learning curve—mostly because the light changes faster than I could spin the command dial.
In Times Square, I was constantly battling the glow of the billboards, trying to figure out why the “Manual” meter kept telling me everything was overexposed while the shadows stayed pitch black. By the time I made it out to the Wonder Wheel at Coney Island, I was finally starting to get a feel for how aperture and shutter speed actually talked to each other.
